When West Coast rapper Eazy-E died in 1995 from complications related to HIV, the loss forced the hip-hop community to face the reality that HIV was not limited to one group of people.

The music industry responded with Urban AID 4 Lifebeat, a benefit concert at Madison Square Garden featuring leading hip-hop and R&B artists.

The event helped educate audiences about safer sex, HIV testing and HIV awareness.
